Terms of service
The agreement between Known and the organizations that use it.
01The agreement
These terms are the agreement between Unknown, which operates Known (“we”, “us”), and the organization that uses it (“you”). By signing in to Known, creating an organization, or accepting an invitation to one, you agree to them. A person who creates an organization or administers it agrees on the organization's behalf and confirms they may do so.
Known is shared knowledge: a record of what a company knows, kept by the people and the coding agents that work from it. These terms cover the web application, the command line tool, the public API, and the bots that answer in team chat products.
02Accounts and organizations
Each person has one login. Sign-in is handled by our identity provider, and you are responsible for keeping your credentials to yourself. An organization is created by a person and administered by its admins, who decide who is a member, which sources are connected, and whether a wiki is public.
Coding agents act through a person's session. Everything an agent reads or writes, it does as the person who ran it, with the agent's mark on the change. You are responsible for what the agents you run do in Known, as you would be for your own actions.
03Your content
Wiki pages, records, notes, chats, and the messages, pushes, and events that connected sources send in are your content. You own it. You grant us the right to store, process, display, and transmit it only as needed to run the service for you: to keep the record, to answer questions from it, to feed it from your connections, and to keep backups.
A wiki is private to its organization. An app the organization registers reads only the wikis attached to it, and only for a member who signs in to it with Known; the organization is responsible for the apps it registers and who it lets use them.
An organization can share one of its wikis with another organization. The wiki stays with the organization that owns it, which decides whether the other organization reads it or also writes to it, and can end the sharing at any time. The other organization's admins accept it, choose which of their people are in, and can leave it. What the other organization's people write into a shared wiki is kept in the owning organization's wiki, under that organization's plan.
We do not use your content to train models. Content is sent to model providers only to generate the answer, digest, or transform you asked for, under terms that forbid training on it.
04Acceptable use
Use of Known is governed by our abuse and acceptable use policy, which is part of these terms. In short: nothing unlawful, nothing that harms other people or other organizations on the service, nothing that works around limits or security, and nothing you do not have the right to put in the record.
05Plans and billing
The plans and their prices are published on the pricing page, which is part of these terms. The Free plan costs nothing. Paid plans are billed monthly or annually to the organization, in advance, through our billing provider. A person counts toward a plan only if they are a member of the organization and have signed in at least once. Agents never count.
You may change plans at any time. Moving up takes effect immediately and is charged pro rata for the rest of the period. Moving down takes effect at the end of the current period. Annual fees are not refunded when you move down or leave; monthly fees are not refunded for a partial month. We may change prices with at least thirty days' notice; a change applies to your organization at the start of its next billing period.
If a payment fails we tell the organization's admins and retry. If it keeps failing, the organization returns to the Free plan and its paid features are locked, not deleted, until payment resumes.
06Connected services and models
Known connects to services you choose, such as Slack, GitHub, and Telegram, and uses model providers to answer questions and write digests. Each of those has its own terms, which apply to your use of it. We use only the access you grant, and you can revoke a connection at any time from the organization's settings.
07Answers, digests, and transforms
The intelligence layer writes answers, digests, and page changes from your record. It names the pages, messages, and commits an answer rests on and says whether the matter is settled, contested, or open. It can still be wrong. You are responsible for reviewing what it writes before you act on it, as you would review a colleague's draft. Every change it makes to a page is a revision you can read, diff, and undo.
08Availability and changes
Known is a young product and changes often. We may add, change, or remove features, and we tell you when a change affects how you work. We keep the service available with reasonable care and keep nightly backups, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability on the Free or Team plans. A service level commitment is part of a Business agreement.
09Leaving and suspension
You can leave at any time. An admin can export the wikis the organization owns and their records, and can delete the organization, which deletes its content from live systems within thirty days and from backups as they roll off. A wiki another organization shares in is not part of that export, and deleting the organization that owns a shared wiki removes it for every organization it was shared with. We may suspend a person or an organization that breaks these terms or the abuse policy, after a warning where one is practical, and we tell the organization's admins when we do.
10Warranties and liability
Known is provided as it is. We make no warranty that it fits a particular purpose, that it is free of errors, or that answers it gives are correct. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising from the service is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
You agree to cover us against claims by third parties that arise from your content or from your breach of these terms.
11Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and disputes are heard by its courts. If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
12Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The effective date at the top of this page says when they last changed, and the page keeps its history. For a change that reduces your rights we give the organization's admins at least thirty days' notice. Continuing to use Known after a change takes effect means you accept it.
