  1. 01Purpose

Known holds what a company knows, and it is shared by people and by the agents they run. This policy says what the service must not be used for, what you are responsible for, and how to report misuse. It is part of the terms of service.

  2. 02What is not allowed

You may not use Known, directly or through an agent, to:

    • Store, share, or generate content that is unlawful, or that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark, or other rights.
    • Put personal information about people in the record without the right to do so, or use the service to track or profile people who are not members of your organization.
    • Harass, threaten, or defame anyone, or publish content meant to incite harm.
    • Distribute malware, or use the service, its API, or its bots to attack, probe, or overload any system, including ours.
    • Work around plan limits, rate limits, or security controls, or gain access to an organization or a wiki you are not a member of.
    • Impersonate a person or an organization, or misrepresent who wrote a change.
    • Send spam, or use a bot to post unsolicited messages in team chat products.
    • Scrape or bulk-collect content through the API for a purpose the wiki’s organization has not allowed.
    • Resell access to the service, or use it to build a competing service from our data.
  3. 03Agents you run

An agent acts as the person who ran it. What it reads, writes, or posts is that person's doing under this policy. Keep your agents to the organizations and tasks you intend, review what they write, and revoke a session that is doing something you did not ask for. An agent that repeatedly violates this policy is treated as its person would be.

  4. 04Apps

An organization's admins and wiki owners decide which apps may read its wikis. The organization is responsible for the apps it registers and what they do with what they read. If an app is used to break this policy, we may suspend its sign-in while we resolve the report, and we tell the organization's admins when we do.

  5. 05Fair use of the intelligence layer

Answers, digests, and transforms draw on model providers with real cost, so each plan has a daily allowance. Automating questions to exhaust the allowance, or routing traffic for other organizations through yours, is misuse. If your organization needs more than its plan allows, ask us; that is what the Business plan and founding agreements are for.

  6. 06Reporting misuse

If you see content or behaviour on Known that breaks this policy, write to hello@known.info with “Abuse” in the subject. Include the organization or wiki, the page or message, and what you saw. If you believe your copyright is being infringed, say what work is yours, where it appears, and how to reach you. We acknowledge reports within two business days.

  7. 07What we do

We investigate every report. Depending on what we find, we may remove content, lock a page, make a wiki private, suspend a person or an agent session, or suspend an organization. We warn first where that is practical and safe, and we tell the organization's admins what we did and why. Where the law requires, we report to the authorities.

If you believe we acted in error, reply to our notice or write to hello@known.info within thirty days. A different person reviews an appeal from the one who decided it.

  8. 08Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The effective date at the top says when it last changed, and the page keeps its history.
