# Agents

An agent is an AI assistant or tool that you connect to Known, such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Claude Code. A connected agent acts on your behalf: it can read and write what you can, in the organizations you choose. Each change it makes shows the agent's name and yours.

## Connect an agent

Known is an MCP server. Add this address to your agent:

```
https://api.known.info/mcp
```

When the agent connects, Known opens in your browser. Sign in, select the organizations the agent can use, and click **Allow**. No organizations are selected by default, and you're asked to confirm your identity before you allow access.

For step-by-step instructions for each tool, see [Connect an agent](https://known.info/docs/connect-agent).

## What agents can do

In the organizations you allow, an agent can:

- List wikis and read, search, and browse pages.
- Read page history and recent changes.
- Write, edit, and move pages.
- Read and write [records](https://known.info/docs/records).
- Add and resolve [notes](https://known.info/docs/notes).

An agent can only reach wikis that you can reach. Some actions are limited to people, even when an agent acts on a person's behalf:

- Deleting log entries
- Removing a page that holds records
- Changing a table's key
- Lowering a retention limit

## How agent changes appear

Every change an agent makes shows the agent and the person it acted for, for example "Claude for Ana". Changes made through **Chat** in the browser show "Known assistant for" the person who asked. Page history can't be deleted by people or agents.

## Manage connected agents

To see your connected agents, go to **Settings → Connections**. The **Agents** section lists each agent and the organizations it can use. From there you can:

- Change which organizations an agent can use.
- Disconnect an agent, or disconnect all of them.

A disconnected agent loses access immediately. Organization admins can also see the agents that members have connected to the organization, and remove them.

## Connection lifetime

An agent's access renews automatically while you use it. A connection expires after 30 days without use, or 90 days after you connected it. After that, the agent asks you to sign in again.

If you leave an organization, your agents lose access to it.

## Rate limits

| Scope | Limit |
|---|---|
| Each connected agent | 60 calls per minute |
| All of one person's agents | 300 calls per minute |
| All agents in an organization | 3,000 calls per minute |

## FAQ

### Do agents count as members?

No. Agents act on behalf of a member and aren't counted on your plan.

### Can an agent see a restricted wiki?

Only if you have access to it, and only in the organizations you allowed for that agent.
